The Commander is a British mystery/crime/drama series starring Amanda Burton (Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse, Silent Witness) as the principal character, Commander Clare Blake. Commander Clare Blake has risen to the top of her profession in the male-dominated Metropolitan Police Service and is now the head of the serious crimes unit. The female commander is no pushover: she is a complex character, complete with faults and a very realistic life.

Commander Blake’s superb detective skills and ability to manipulate her fellow workers who have it in for her, keep her ahead of the pack.

Commander Blake previously arrested James Lampton for murder. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison but is now out on parole and is a successful author with a best-selling book. Blake’s colleagues however, especially DCI Mike Hedges, believe Lampton is responsible for another murder and are out to prove his guilt. Things become complicated when Commander Blake and Lampton become intimate and the question arises whether he is being honest with her or is simply a master manipulator.

Commander Clare Blake feels the heat of these high-profile cases and more while proving herself to the Police Service. The series is written by the prolific Lynda LaPlante (Prime Suspect and many others)

There are eight more episodes in the The Commander series. Coming soon!

I’ll Have It My Way with Hattie Bryant

I'll Have It My Way with Hattie Bryant

“The medicalization of American life from birth to death is killing our souls.”

– Hattie Bryant

As much as we all want to believe we can live forever, we all know deep down that it simply can’t be true.

From this program viewers learn that there are things each of us can do to live fully, all the way to the end. Anyone who is willing to take four simple steps now, while healthy, can minimize if not avoid entirely, the pain, suffering, confusion and disagreements that can arise when end-of-life healthcare wishes are not clearly spelled out.

Americans need this information because 70% say they want to die peacefully surrounded by friends and family … while actually 70% are dying in institutions surrounded by strangers.

Few people choose to contemplate critical illness or the inevitability of death until their time comes. Because possibilities are rarely discussed, many people are unprepared or unable to make critical end-of-life decisions and spend their last days in over-medicalized and unnecessarily painful and protracted situations.

Breaking through the taboo of discussing death, Hattie Bryant shows that we have choices.
